Tide Line Blue is a real hidden gem. It has a bit of action, romance, comedy, and drama.

Soul Eater is pretty interesting concept wise and art wise (Japanese Tim Burton style).

GetBackers (from 2002, I believe) has a lot of elements rolled into one jam packed series.

It really depends on what you like. Try looking at the anime news network for reviews on new/old/up-coming anime,

I’m liking: Devil May Cry.
The latest volume is due out this month right on time for Halloween.
I also have been checking out older series like Outlaw Star and Berserk.
Peace, G.

If you want a giggle and you’re over 18 watch ‘Colorful’ or ‘Kekko Kamen’…

But as for some more ‘normal’ ones…

Try these:

Bleach
Elfen Lied
Death Note
Ouran High School Host Club
Chobits

Might I suggest buying a copy of NEO Magazine if you can get it, or something similar… as they recommend new animes all the time with full reviews and synopsis every time. It’s very useful, and I have come across some gems that way :)
Good Luck ^^

Fantastic Children: somewhat new adventure series
Air TV: beautiful and interesting but short
Please Save My Earth: a renowned science fiction series
Scrapped Princess: an action-filled series full of intrigue
Boogiepop Phantom: an eerie, dark series about a legendary killer
Brigadoon: almost a mecha, but has other elements as well
