My first thought is that the Import DVDs may not play in US/Canada DVD players (Region 1), as they were made for other countries.

Domestic anime comes from other countries(most of the time japan)
and sometimes its in other languages(most of the time its in japanese)
its really nice for anime collectors to have.

import anime dvds are anime only in japanese language and it much cheaper than the domestic anime dvds. also they are region free.

domestic anime dvds are anime in english and sometimes switches to japanese language and it much more expensive than the import ones.

HERE IS THE REAL DIFFERENCE:
I have purchased both and the Menus are different; the subtitles are not professionally done (a lot of mistakes) and the quality is not remastered. Also if the voices are dub you can swith them to japanese on the Domestic ones and they also have about 8 different languages for subtittles. So basically if you pay for the cheap one, you get cheap quality and poor art box.

Also because the quality is poor you might not enjoy the animation that much. The difference is kinda like when you watch a low quality video or a HIGH quality video on youtube or like watching a VHS and a DVD.
